52 Feet of SUBWAY® Sandwich Keeps High School Track Team Running!
On Saturday, Oct. 4, residents of Monticello, Illinois sampled a sandwich like no other.
Known for its picturesque downtown area, the town of Monticello hosts a number of events year round to promote civic pride and community involvement. For this year’s annual Fall Celebration, featuring live music, arts and crafts, children’s activities, and food, SUBWAY® franchisee, Haresh Patel, wanted to do something that would stand out.
To help raise money for the Monticello High School Cross Country team, Haresh and his team made the biggest SUBWAY® sandwich they could.
Measuring in at 52.5 feet, it was certain to be the longest sub in the county. And after being lovingly assembled, it was cut into pieces and sold to visitors, raising money for the team.
“We wanted to be recognized as part of the town, someone that likes to help,” stated Haresh. “Everyone thought it was really nice to do this for the cross country team. Many of our customers have been talking about this sub for days, and it was so much fun to make.”
Haresh’s desire to do something big for the track team is not unusual.
He is part of a large group who takes great pride in being active and
responsible members of the communities in which they live and work.
Franchisee’s Effort to Help School Earns an A+
When the Pleasant Grove Independent School District in Texarkana, Texas, found that they were unable to serve students lunch during their first week of school, their Director of Food Services immediately considered SUBWAY® and franchisee, Philip Peek, jumped into action.
According to Philip, the SUBWAY® menu fits the school’s health-conscious policy and he was glad to help the School District out.
Employees from all three of Phillip’s stores pitched in, working throughout the night and into early morning to bake bread and prepare sandwiches. Each store made between three to four hundred subs, and Philip delivered the lunches every morning by 10 am. Thanks to everyone’s efforts, the students enjoyed delicious subs for the first week of school.
“You have to make sure you give 100% when it comes to customer service,” Philip said. “I have no idea what I would have done without my dedicated staff, and I certainly wouldn’t have been able to do this on my own.”
In addition to delivering school lunches, the SUBWAY® chain has locations inside public, private and parochial schools as well as restaurants on college and university campuses around the world.
