Menu & Nutrition FAQs

Subway® does not put artificial grill marks on our chicken. We start with the whole chicken breast, just like the one you cook at home. We marinate it, add spices, roast it in the oven and then sear it under a rotating grill. We pride ourselves on serving quality oven-roasted chicken.

For Canada menu items a document is posted in the nutrition section of called “Ingredient Information for People with Food Allergies”. This document identifies which standard menu items contain certain allergens and sensitive ingredients.

The bulk of rennin used in processing is microbial, however there could be a chance of calf rennin in the cheese due to production variables. Our cheese contains no porcine (pig) derived rennin.

All of the core menu items are free of artificial trans fat (partially hydrogenated oil). A few menu items contain small amounts of naturally occurring trans fat, found in meats and dairy.

The SUBWAY brand does not add MSG to any of the standard menu items. However, other ingredients such as hydrolyzed or textured vegetable proteins and/or autolyzed yeast are used in our products. These ingredients contain glutamates that may cause similar sensitivities that MSG causes. To find out which foods at SUBWAY contain autolyzed yeast and hydrolyzed protein, visit the nutrition section of the website to view ingredient listings. There is also a document in the nutrition section, called “Ingredient Information for People with Food Allergies” which identifies menu items that contain these two ingredients. Snack chips and pre-packaged salad dressings sold in our restaurants may contain MSG, so make sure to read the ingredient list on the package.

The following sandwiches and salads are pork free: Meatball Marinara, Cold Cut Trio™ (US only), Tuna, Roast Beef, SUBWAY Seafood & Crab®, Turkey Breast, Steak & Cheese, Roasted Chicken and Sweet Onion Chicken Teriyaki. Additionally, our vegetables, sauces and cheeses are pork free.

Product freshness is a key priority for SUBWAY®. We are continuing to work toward our goal of removing all artificial flavours, colours and preservatives from our menu items while still delivering the great tastes Canadians expect.

The following items are free from artificial colours, flavours and preservatives:

Chicken patty; Chicken strips; Omelet – regular and egg white; Steak; Meatball; Cucumber; Green pepper; Grilled onions & peppers; Lettuce; Onions; Tomatoes; Marinara; Mustard – deli brown; Oatmeal Raisin cookie; Sugar cookie; Yogurt Parfait; Bread; Deli Roll; Flatbread; Wrap.

Others products are being reviewed.

Where preservatives are necessary to maintain freshness, our first choice is to use natural-source preservatives wherever possible.  In some cases, artificial preservatives are the only feasible option at this time. They are used in:

All sauces/toppings (except marinara and mustard); Banana Peppers; Jalapeño pepper slices; Pickles; Olives; Cured meats (bacon, salami, pepperoni, ham, bologna, cooked salami, luncheon loaf); Chicken teriyaki; Seafood Sensation; Tuna; Egg salad.

In our marketing materials, references to “preservatives” refer to artificial agents.
