Meet Amira—College Student and Subway® Franchise Owner

Meet Sweden’s newest Subway® Restaurant Owner, Amira Ben Khalifa, who went from Sandwich Artist® to Franchisee in just two years.

Amira always dreamed of owning a business. But even more impressive than turning her dream into a reality—she balances running a restaurant with her educational pursuits as a Computer Engineering student at the University of Skövde.

NO STRANGER TO HARD WORK

Two years ago, Amira became a Sandwich Artist, working nights and weekends while attending school. Eventually, she was promoted to restaurant manager before landing the opportunity to purchase her very own Subway Restaurant.

Through hard work, dedication, and drive—Amira successfully opened her restaurant in August of 2019. Not only is she a young, female entrepreneur, but she is the first in her family to own her own business – a title she holds with great pride; “None of my family members have owned their own business. I’m doing everything first, and I feel very proud and accomplished.”

Although the transition to business owner came with some challenges, Amira successfully overcame them to get to where she is today. Looking back, Amira says, “I think I surprised a lot of people!”

A RECIPE FOR SUCCESS

Beyond her own hard work, Amira feels incredibly supported by her co-workers and former boss, Peter Jonasson.

Peter, the previous owner of her restaurant, owns three Subway restaurants in Sweden and has been a Franchise Owner since 2011.

He feels proud that Amira is taking the next step in her career and is certain she can accomplish her dreams, saying, “She knows a lot [about the business] already.”

For Franchise Owners, especially first-time owners like Amira, Peter has a recipe for success. “Make sure you have control of the restaurant,” he said. “Be there a lot, especially in the beginning, and have a nice attitude towards your customers and staff.”

With time, as well as mentorship, this self-starter has big goals—and by all accounts, is well on her way to achieving them. Amira says: “I’d like to own more Subway restaurants, even in different countries; I’d like to travel. That would be a dream!”

Amira has proven that nothing can stand in the way of someone who works hard to achieve their goals. Are you driven by an entrepreneurial spirit, just like Amira? Explore Subway careers.
